H. Fred Gober, Jr., M.D. FACOG

Our practice was established in 1983. Dr. Gober is a board certified, Duke University trained physician, and a native of Atlanta. We recognize that each patient is unique with individual needs and health care concerns. We strive to meet each of those needs with continuity of care and respect.

Nothing is more exciting than the birth of a healthy baby to a healty mother. That is why we devote the majority of our practice to obstetrics. Pregnant women need detailed and focused care throughout their pregnancy to ensure optimal outcomes. Each pregnant patient in our practice is seen and assessed at each prenatal visit by Dr. Gober. Furthermore, it should be reassuring to know that when in labor, our patients are managed and delivered by the same doctor who gave them their prenatal care. Not only is such continuity of care important for optimum medical management, it is also comforting to our patients and their families who prefer having a doctor with them who they know and have come to rely upon. Dr. Gober delivers his patients at Emory Crawford Long Hospital. The hospital has a beautiful Women's Wing with large LDR rooms. Each LDR has its own private bathroom (with shower) and a sleeper for exhausted fathers. The nursing staff is very attentive and supportive, and of course, the hospital has an excellent group of board certified perinatologists and neonatologists on staff who are always available if needed. In fact, the lead neonatologist, Dr. Ann Critz,is recognized by her colleagues as one of the best in the nation.

We also provide gynecological care for women of all ages. Of course, each woman has individual needs and health concerns, and we earnestly strive to meet those needs. Moreover, we recognize that women's gynecological care is a very private matter, and our office staff is sensitive to those concerns. We even designed our exam rooms such that each has its own private dressing room.

We generally recommend routine exams and pap smears every year, but the time frame varies depending upon each patient's individual history and risk factors. It is important that every woman try to set this time aside for herself since we have seen cases where a patient has a completely normal exam at one visit and at the next scheduled visit there is a problem. Fortunately, when problems are detected early, treatment is easier and prognosis of the problem is often excellent. We are agressive in determining the causes of health concerns, yet we are conservative in our treatment. While we believe that gynecological surgery is sometimes needed for specific conditions, surgery is usually not at the top of the list of options for most gynecological problems. However, when surgery is needed, we can give our patients the choice of going to St. Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta or Emory Crawford Long Hospital for the operative procedure.
